The Secondary Celebration of Singing takes place annually in October and is aimed at Key Stage Three or older.
As students progress through secondary school, they can feel self-conscious about singing in a group, and this is often exacerbated as their voices change and develop. This event is an opportunity for students who love to sing or are interested in singing to meet, learn and sing together without worrying about who is listening!
It is flexible in that schools can bring any group they wish. It can, for example, be used as an opportunity for a KS3 choir, or a recruitment opportunity into school singing activities for new Year 7 students.
Participating schools receive resources for three songs (fully supported with learning recordings and suggestions for classroom development), aimed at KS3+, with flexible arrangements to support vocal development and harmony singing, and inclusive for changing or changed voices.
The Celebration events themselves take part during the school day and bring schools together at a host secondary school. In informal but purposeful workshop sessions, we rehearse and perform the shared repertoire, with additional on-the-day material and activities to improve vocal awareness and technique. Each school also has the opportunity to perform their own prepared piece if they wish, and the students are given time to mix and socialise.
There are two events this year to choose from in different parts of the borough:
- Monday, 16th October: St James Catholic High School, NW9 5PE
- Tuesday, 17th October: Ark Pioneer Academy, EN5 2BE
The cost of taking part is £75.
